Acupuncture
Veterinary acupuncture involves stimulating sensory nerves under the skin and in the muscles by inserting thin needles into specific points on an animal's body, known as acupuncture points.
This results in the body producing and releasing chemicals, such as pain-relieving endorphins, into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These biochemical changes may stimulate the body's natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being.
At Floyd’s Tale, I travel to treat your pet in the comfort of their own home.

What To Expect During a Veterinary Acupuncture Session
Consultation: I will first perform a thorough physical exam of your animal to assess their overall health and determine the appropriate acupuncture points to target.
Preparation: Your animal may be asked to lie down or may be held still while the needles are inserted. I will clean the skin with alcohol or another antiseptic to reduce the risk of infection. We will keep your animal comfortable with toys, treats, and hugs.
Needle Insertion: I will then insert fine needles into the acupuncture points, typically at a depth of 1-3 mm. The needles are left in place for anywhere from a few seconds to 30 minutes, depending on the condition being treated. Many of my patients fall asleep during their treatments.
Stimulation: I may gently manipulate the needles to enhance their effects, or may use other techniques such as heat or electrical stimulation that we have discussed during the consultation.
Removal: After the needles have been in place for the appropriate amount of time, they are carefully removed and discarded.
Depending on your animal and their specific condition, they may require several acupuncture sessions over a period of weeks or months to achieve the desired results. The number and frequency of sessions will vary depending on the animal's individual needs.
It's worth noting that some animals may be sensitive to the needle insertion, while others may become relaxed or even fall asleep during the treatment. If you have any concerns or questions about the procedure, I am more than happy to answer them for you and help you decide if acupuncture is the right choice for your animal.
